What About Townhouses and Duplexes in Labrador?
Almost half of Labrador's homes are townhouses, duplexes or semi-detached homes, according to the 2021 Census. Each home needs its own compliant smoke alarms, interconnected within that home only.
A townhouse over two levels needs at least one alarm on each level, as well as one in every bedroom and the hallway outside them. Labrador's houses tend to need more alarms than its units: the houses we've upgraded here usually needed 6 to 7.
Labrador is mostly townhouses, duplexes and units, and that's what most of our jobs here have been. They usually need 3 or 4 alarms.
The houses are a different story. They're bigger, and the ones we've upgraded have needed 6 or 7 alarms on average.
In older Labrador homes the old alarm is often in a spot that no longer meets the rules, so it has to be moved. That can leave a small hole in the ceiling to patch, and we're not plasterers or painters.
